Wednesday 20th August – Windsurf ** The Dip at Felixstowe – sunny
periods.
Foil – 19.21 knot max, 17.63 knot ave., 7.75 knot hour, 14.09 knot
mile, 37.34 km., 14.38 knot alpha.
Starboard Freeride WS 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham
Bolt 5.50.
After yesterday good NE session at The Dip, several were getting excited
about doing it again today but I was never that optimistic as the forecast
was NNE, a tad off! With several meeting up around one I had plenty of time
to do my exercises in the garden, sadly the sun did not make an appearance
until after midday:( When I left it did not look great with Landguard
showing marginal gusty winds from the NNE but when I arrived at the beach
three wingers were about to launch with 4m wings and two fin sailers had
rigged 6.5 and 7m, rather them than me as the wind was cross off. Everyone
wobbled off the beach and did find some wind but it a long way offshore and
very up and down, not very inspiring, especially as the sun had disappeared
again but I did make the effort, setting up my foil board and taking a
chance with my 5.5, to be honest what ever sail I rigged today as the wind
was all over the place in both direction and strength, N to NE gusting
between 10 and 20 knots so I didn’t feel comfortable at all! I headed out
to the wind line and did get going but you were overpowered or floundering
and the sea was pretty big out to sea where the fin sailers were with the
wingers staying closer in near the shingle bank! People didn’t actually
stay out that long and headed in, I had a few more runs and decided to join
them when the wind turned north well off but I did catch a few gusts behind
the shihgle bank as the water flattened right off but the wind was very
patchy. Landing everyone was packing up so I headed to the van for a snack,
with most leaving the wind actually returned, NE and around 20 knots so I
decided to have another go and increased my top speed from 17 to 19 knots
and had the best of the wind for today but it was still very up and down so
not great so I decided to call it a day, a session to forget for sure!
